WinStar’s gaming floor alone covers more than 600,000 square feet, and that doesn’t include any of our other resort amenities. Mark manages the safety team that works tirelessly to ensure the safety of all of our patrons and employees across the entire property. Under Mark’s leadership, his team is a valuable piece of making every WinStar experience great! Take a minute to learn more about Mark and his role at WinStar!
Tell us a few fun facts about yourself.
I was born and raised in Kingston, Oklahoma, and that is where I have lived for most of my life. I have twin daughters that keep me very busy. In the summer you can find us boating, fishing and skiing on Lake Texoma. I like to hunt, and at times my daughters go hunting with me. I have a great time traveling with friends, and I also enjoy cooking and grilling.
Mark, we would happily join you on the lake in the summer. Sounds like a blast!
How did you get into doing what you do? Was it something you always wanted to do or was it something that found you?
I graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health. In 2009 I was fortunate to start my career with the Chickasaw Nation as the Safety Manager at Riverwind Casino. When the position came available here at WinStar World Casino and Resort I was happy to move back to my hometown and family. Additionally, it was a great new and challenging position I had the opportunity of pursuing.
What does day-to-day at WinStar World Casino and Resort look like?
There is never a dull moment in the Safety Department. On any given day you can find me all over the WinStar World Casino and Resort property, from the RV Park to the many kitchens. I do everything from dealing with vendors to investigating incidents.
Wow, sounds like you are all over WinStar! We’d like to see how many miles you log on a Fitbit each day!
What gets you motivated to go to work each day?
The Safety Department is here to ensure the well-being and safety of our patrons and employees. I like having the privilege of recognizing and implementing safe work practices. I have a great safety team to guide and mentor.
What is your favorite WinStar memory so far?
I have many great memories while working at WinStar World Casino and Resort due to the life-long friendships I have developed. I also enjoy the American Heart Association Luau and Car Wash fundraiser. Just knowing that I have the privilege to work with the employees and boost morale with each event is such motivation for me. I know that our employees look forward to the events and it makes me really grateful to get to be part of such a great organization.
We are so grateful for Mark and his team’s effort to make WinStar safe and enjoyable for everyone who visits and works here. If you see him around, be sure to stop him to say thanks!
